I have KEYS!
Jan. 18th, 2011 10:06 pmI was finally able to pick up the keys to my new apartment today! I met with the building caretaker at 3 this afternoon and he was a very nice guy, much better than the real estate people I've had to deal with up to this point. He showed me how there were two keys to the outside door, one for my mailbox, and three for my front door. I haven't been able to move anything in yet, and will remain in my rented room until Saturday, but it feels so good to know that I finally have a place to go that is all mine and wont have to keep hopping from rented room to rented room.
Seeing the place in daylight was nice - it gets good light, and the ceilings have beautiful moldings that I hadn't noticed before. The walls are beat up and need a paint job, but I think I'm going to leave them as they are because I like the patina, and I'm probably going to muck them up with paint from my art projects anyway. The floors are beautiful old wooden boards, and the kitchen is larger than I remembered.
On the way to my German class after work I picked up a little folding mattress at Lidl that I can use as a bed until I figure out what I'm going to do for furniture. The girl I'm renting my current room from wants to get rid of some of her furniture, and I think I'd like to take the nice round table and small side table. These big green chairs are comfy, but they're pretty ugly so I don't know if I want them or not. I suppose I could just use them for now and then replace them once I get my bearings. I still haven't decided.
So today at work they let me know I'll be going to Zurich on next Tuesday for the day, and then again the following week. I'm going to get on their frequent flyer plan because I can imagine all these miles are going to add up if they send me over for meetings all the time like this. It will help pay for my trips back home to visit friends and family.
