DER TRAUM

I ordered a new pair of Roper boots last week and they just arrived.

I have an old pair that I use as work boots, but they're falling apart, so I figured I would replace them. Roper boots are actually a kind of western riding boot, although they look nothing like the typical cowboy boot, so you'd never guess.

They're not as safe as a lace-less boot because if you fall off your horse and your foot gets caught in the stirrup, God help you.

Walked through my old neighborhood this afternoon, and passed by the cement plant. I used to walk by it every day, but never from this angle. It felt strange to see it from the back.

They're not as bulky as my other pair, and they have ventilation holes on the sides too, which is nice.

It was 26° F (-3.3° C) here today, but the sun was out and there was no wind. I had set out in my thick wool coat and enormous fur hat but had to take the hat off after a bit because it was just too warm.

I sifted through a bunch of neat old junk over at the Salvation Army thrift store near Grand and Halstead. They have a room dedicated to older, more interesting junk than your average run-of-the-mill junk. Stuff that's maybe not good enough to be sold at an antique store, but still interesting in it's own right. I didn't buy any old junk today, though. Just the new kind ;)

Today is the first warm day we've had in too long a time, and the sun was out. The walk to work was a pleasure. Now all we need is a good thunderstorm to wash all the salt and sludge away.



Yesterday after work I bought a new outfit for myself. Yes, I am dreaming of warm weather:



I am wearing the shirt today. The skirt is scandalously short, so I won't be wearing it to work. It'll be for evenings and weekends, I suppose.

I'm thinking I will probably need some red sandals to go with this outfit. Maybe something like these:
