I've been getting back into food and nutrition lately. My first couple years here in Germany I had a little bit too much on my plate (har har) to focus on healthy food too much, and I relied heavily on frozen pizzas, breakfast cereal and sandwiches. And really, that's not so extremely unhealthy.

But over the past few months I've been going to organic farmer's stands at the markets on Saturday and the organic grocery stores during the week, stocking up on things like bee pollen, spirulina, maca root, and goji berries. I've turned dinner into a challenge to find out how many different colors I can get together into the same meal: green leaves, red beets, orange squash, yellow peppers, shiny black egg plant, purple cabbage, hot red peppers… it's awesome.

I can't wait to go foraging in the woods for wild mushrooms. I have plans to go tomorrow with a guy I work with who's all into the nature thing. You know, 'The wind is coming from the west! You can tell by the sound of the leaves.' That sort of thing. He invited me to come along with his friends and kids – apparently they've been going every weekend for a while now.

On Sunday I'll be going out to visit my friend Rose who has a weekend cottage just outside of Berlin. She says there's supposed to be an ancient swimming pool out in the woods there somewhere, so maybe we'll look for that as well as mushrooms. She showed me the stash of wild fungi she found last weekend and it was amazing! Her whole kitchen table was covered with stuff.
