May. 8th, 2014 10:28 amMy parents are set to arrive here in a few weeks and I'm really excited. I got in touch with my mother's distant cousin Günter to let him know, and he offered to arrange for us all to take a boat trip through the city. Yay! My parents don't speak any German, and Günter doesn't speak any English, so I will take on the duty of Translator, which should be interesting.
I'm looking forward to showing my parents around the city, though. This is the first time they have come to visit me in the 3.5 years that I have lived abroad. They are the kind of people that don't like to deal with things they aren't familiar with and tend to stay close to home, and I can tell they are vaguely aprehensive about coming here.
Hopefully they will cultivate a better understanding of Berlin while they are here so they will want to come back and visit more often. This isn't the old, divided Berlin of the '80s any longer, which I'm sure they are imagining.
