Had a good day at work. It was one of those über-stressful days where you can't really tell if everything is going to go to hell and you're going to be there all night trying to fix things or if everyone's jaw is going to drop and give you high-fives. It turned out to be the latter, and I love it when that happens.

My iPod finally gave up the ghost on my walk home. It shut down in the middle of a song and then wouldn't respond - kept flashing on and then off, and then a little "!" symbol appeared with a message that I get "support". Having already Restored it three times in the past week I was skeptical as to it's ability to continue serving me. I was close to the Apple Store, so I walked over there and asked the guy at the door what was up with it. He held it up to his ear. "I can hear the hard drive struggling to be read and failing - it's totally shot". He told me it would cost the same to fix it as it would to replace it, so I bought a new one. I got a 10% discount on the new one for trading in my old one, too.

As I was walking home I noticed that someone was coming up behind me inappropriately close, and it freaked the shit out of me - I thought it must be a pervert or someone trying to steal my bag - until I saw that it was O and that he was laughing really hard at my reaction. It was good to see him. We took a walk in the cool evening wind, and parted ways at North Avenue.

I unwrapped my new iPod and plugged it into my computer. It wouldn't connect! I need to have OS X 10.4.9 installed on my computer for it to work. Bastards.

I thought about bones as I cooked my dinner. I thought about how insects have bones on the outsides of their bodies instead of inside, and how they sometimes shed these outside-bones, like cicadas do. And that made me think about how strange it would be if people shed their inside-bones every now and then, sort of how we lose our teeth when we are young. Maybe every now and then we would grow new bones and the old ones would fall out of us. Kinda like a having a bone period. And we would wear bags under our clothes to catch the bones, because if people saw them falling out of us that would be unseemly and embarrassing. And there would be all sorts of products we could buy to help us deal with the discomforts of the bone cycle.
